What Is Dysport?
Dysport is an FDA-approved injectable neuromodulator made from a purified form of botulinum toxin type A, derived from non-animal sources. It works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause facial muscles to contract, smoothing the lines and wrinkles those contractions create. In a quick 10–20 minute treatment, Dysport visibly softens moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows.
Dysport may be a good choice for those looking to start with injectable neuromodulator treatments, as well as for those who know what to look for and love their results. It is currently approved in 69 countries and has 25 years of clinical experience worldwide.
Dysport vs. BOTOX Cosmetic
While Dysport and BOTOX share the same active ingredient, they are not interchangeable. Dysport is formulated with smaller protein molecules and a higher concentration of the active ingredient (0.27 ng), which allows it to diffuse more evenly across the treated area for a softer, more natural-looking result — especially across larger muscle groups like the forehead. Because of this different formulation, Dysport is typically dosed at roughly a 2-to-1 to 3-to-1 ratio compared to BOTOX.
Dysport also has the fastest onset of any neuromodulator on the market, with many patients seeing results in as little as 24 hours — compared to 3–5 days for BOTOX — and typically lasts 4–5 months.
